Envie Transatlantique

or Cross Atlantic Envy

Following on my last post detailing the near-total retreat of office supplies for card storage, I decided to pursue an idea for a later post. Along the way I discovered that Europe has a much larger selection of boxes, trays and storage solutions for cards.

I’m not particularly familiar with the suppliers in Europe, so take the links with a grain of salt. Please update me with the state of the manufacturers.

HAN

Han not to be confused with Hon. In addition to the below, they also make a shallow ‘recipe box’.

  • Wood Index Boxes with hinged lid and follower in A5-7.
  • Wood Trays with follower in A5-7.
  • Plastic boxes with lid that can nest under the tray, follower/divider. There is also a locking model which inexplicably come with a clear lid. In A5-7.
  • Plastic trays with divider/followers (they look like 1/2 the box above). In A5-7 horizontal and A4-6 vertical orientation.
  • Trays that can be hung on (Euro A4) file rails.

STYRO

Styro make some hanging open trays in both orientations A4-7 and A4-6. I believe the trays are the same, but hold one size larger (but lower in the A system). The difference is the shape of the dividers. In addition, they also make a shallow ‘recipe box’ with a clever lid.

HELIT

I could not find a company link. They make a hanging tray similar to the two companies above. They may also make boxes as listed by some retailers.

EXACOMPTA

Exacompta makes several boxes and also produces the cards.

DURABLE

Durable may or may not still make 2-drawer units similar to the Steelmaster drawers in the US.

REXEL

Despite the lack of a corporate website, they seem to make box lidded boxes and drawers.
